Are table salt, gallium and citrine crystals?

The answer to your question is yes. In their solid form these materials all form crystals – which is what one expects from elements, minerals or compounds in their solid state.

Table salt (sodium chloride) is a compound and is also a mineral (halite) which forms crystals when it comes out of solution. Gallium is an element present naturally in solid state, which forms crystals. And citrine is the yellowish form of quartz, but is usually restricted to perfectly formed crystals, such as grow in cavities.

Crystals include the perfectly formed specimens used for displays, as well as the much more common varieties which don’t form perfect crystal faces and terminations. Not all minerals exist in a natural environment which will allow them to form perfect crystals. Table salt and citrine commonly form perfect crystals (although the salt crystals may be only visible under magnification). Gallium is an element extracted from ore, and is unlikely to ever form perfect crystals, simply because the manufacturing process doesn’t permit this to happen.
